Forklift PWAS

Forklift Safety PWAS Proximity Warning Alert System

A workplace full of pedestrians and vehicles’ movement can present a lot of challenges for a forklift operator. With so many people and vehicles moving around, the operator must stay alert to avoid potential worksite accidents. The vision of the forklift operator will be limited at the intersections and gates; and in some cases, could be blocked due to the load the operator is carrying. Locations like factories, warehouses, and ports typically have a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Even more than that, keeping the goods and property safe is another challenge in these busy workplaces. So, being alert to other vehicles, pedestrians, and property is critical to keep the workplace safe.

Forklift PWAS is a safety proximity warning and alert system that is designed specifically for the forklift to keep the operator and pedestrians aware of the hazards around the forklift in the workplace. The pedestrians and operators will not always see or hear each other during forklift operations due to many workplace factors like loud, dimly lit, or blind spots.

The Forklift proximity warning and alert safety system is customizable with Tag or Non-Tag system as per clients’ requirements. When the forklift safety system gets customized with the tag system, it will detect any tag worn by personnel or attached to an object within a 3-5 meter detection range. If the customer chooses to integrate the Forklift PWAS with the non-tag system, any object or personnel will be recognized within 180 degrees and 3-5 meter range, regardless of the tag’s existence. The Forklift PWAS comes with a special monitor and camera system to provide more safe and convenient forklift operations.

  • Sensing any objects crossing the detection zone
  • Detections of stationary and moving objects
  • Providing visual and audible warnings0
  • 360 degree detection area coverage
  • Extra 180 degree detection area coverage (for non tag holders and objects)
  • Getting rid of blind spot area
  • Suitable for any type of machinery
  • User defined detection range 7 to 15 m for outdoor, to 3-5 m for indoor.
  • Event and hazard reporting

PWAS Control Unit & Sensor

For Forklift PWAS, the control unit exists in both of the available customizations: tag and non-tag. However, the sensor unit is provided only with the non-tag customization.

The PWAS control unit is placed next to the operator inside the forklift cab. When any personnel or object is detected nearby, the control unit engages an alarm to warn the forklift operator that a person or an object is approaching the hazard area. The built-in antenna inside the control unit will identify the tags holders and creates a 360 degree detection zone around the forklift with a range of up to 5 meters. The Forklift PWAS Sensor unit can detect any personnel or objects (with no tags worn) within a 180 degree detection range and up to 5m. Event and hazard recording feature is included for better risk assessment and incident investigation.

Detection Zone
The detection zone in the Forklift PWAS will depend on the selected customization (either tag or non-tag). For the Forklift PWAS that is customized with a tag system, a 360 degrees coverage with up to 5m range area will be detected. For the non-tag Forklift PWAS, all objects and non-tag holder personnel will be sensed within a 180 degrees coverage and up to 5m. The detection zone for both customized systems can be expanded or reduced upon the client’s request.

PWAS Camera & Monitor
Forklift PWAS is equipped with unique cameras that are different from the other types heavy equipment cameras. The Forklift PWAS camera system has been designed to suit the forklift’s specific needs and fulfill the safety requirements. Combining the cameras & monitor together will provide a better view for the forklift operator and eliminate the blind spots.

Forklift PWAS cameras can be mounted at different points of the forklift. The aim here is to allow forklift operators to reach and have greater visibility of areas they usually cannot see.

For example, the forklift cameras can be mounted on the overhead guard, or on the carriage between the two forks; so when the operators want to load up, they can easily see and line up the forks with the pallet. Also, as a back-up, the camera can be mounted on the forklift’s chassis on the back. More cameras can be added as well if additional views are required.
